How We Are Different and Why Our Approach Works
Utilizing cutting-edge research, we offer the safest, most effective treatments. Medications are often not enough; our psychiatrists delve into your unique needs and values. We prioritize education and guidance, viewing you as a decision-making partner. Collaboration with your therapist, primary care doctor, or specialist is integral. Success thrives when your healthcare team communicates effectively.
Women and spouses facing mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety during attempts to conceive, pregnancy, the first year postpartum, or after experiencing loss encounter significant difficulties
The whole timeframe, from pre-conception to postpartum, is referred to as the “peripartum” or “perinatal” period. Mental health symptoms that occur during this period are collectively known as Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, or “PMADs.”
PMADs such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and bipolar disorder can emerge or intensify during pregnancy, birth or after loss. 1 in 5 women face these disorders, impacting pregnancy, birth complications, and long-term wellbeing for both mother and child if untreated.
We offer comprehensive treatment for various adult mental health conditions. These include depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other related conditions. Our approach encompasses a wide spectrum of therapeutic interventions tailored to individual needs. Whether it's managing symptoms, enhancing coping skills, or fostering resilience, our goal is to support each patient's journey towards mental wellness.
Our team of experienced psychiatrists provides compassionate care and evidence-based treatments. We understand the unique challenges posed by each condition and strive to empower our patients with the tools they need to lead fulfilling lives. Whether through therapy, medication management, or lifestyle adjustments, we work collaboratively with our patients to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes in their mental health journey
Psychiatrists, as primary medical experts, accurately diagnose and treat mental health conditions. They use medication when necessary to alleviate symptoms and improve their patient’s well-being. Their extensive medical training allows them to understand the complex interplay between mental and physical health, enabling comprehensive care. Psychiatrists provide crucial support for individuals navigating mental health challenges, fostering long-term recovery and enhancing overall quality of life.
Psychologists and therapists often work in collaboration with psychiatrists and can be very helpful in providing talk therapy and other non-pharmacologic interventions. Their expertise in behavioral and emotional health is vital for addressing underlying issues and fostering coping strategies. Through individualized therapy sessions, they empower patients to achieve lasting mental health improvements and enhance their overall quality of life.
Both Psychologists and Therapists are trained mental health professionals who help patients address emotional, behavioral, or relationship challenges. In our practice, psychologists and therapists often collaborate with psychiatrists, providing talk therapy and other non-medication treatments. This comprehensive approach addresses both the biological and psychological aspects of mental health, ensuring holistic care tailored to everyone’s needs.
We specialize in perinatal psychiatry: the treatment of women who are pregnant, postpartum, trying to conceive, or coping with loss. Dr Finch was the first psychiatrist in the state of NJ to be certified by Postpartum Support International as an expert in the field of perinatal mental health (the PMH-C credential) and has been an expert in the field for over a decade.
